Gizmo has to write the recorded "phone" conversations in .WAV format rather than MP3 format. Daddy doesn't like.
It seems Like a huge waste of space to use wav instead of mp3 or ogg, But how offen are you going to use it? You can convert wav into all formats cant you? I don't beleive any kind of drm is involved in .Wav yet.
This program looks pretty cool, I'm guessing that you have used it before? I kind of like the call in option for only $3.00 a month. If I am reading this right It can even be used with a PBX system. Very cool!
Yeah its funny: I just called my Dad in Milwaukee via Gizmo and he said that the sound was better than my$50+/month cell phone signal.
Sad.
Imagine the day they'll have something you can add t o your DSL line that gives you remote, mobile calling via internet technology :)
Alot of the signal quality has to do with how that data is transfered. With a cell phone you want the data rate to be as small as possible, Cell phones don't transmit backround sound when no one is talking because the sounds are not withing a certin range, This applies to your voice too, the sampling range for a cell phone is much smaller than that of a land line or a "internet phone". Packets in a cellphones are droped/lost more offen also. It would be nice to achive a better call quality with cell phones but, this will likely because it can only be achived through better compression - Unlikly for us to see that happen soon.
-Oh man now my hear hurts, where am I? - Must been acsessing school files in my head again I hate when you learn something and remember it don't you?
I hope my description is good enough and correct. Its been almost a month since we talked about in school.
