Netflix: no "Instant Viewing" in Linux...

I have been a Netflix member for some time now. All in all, I've enjoyed their service.

I recently got an email from them indicating that I can now view my rented titled instantly over the web, rather than wait for them in the mail. While this isn't always something I'd want to do, it sounded like something worth checking out, so I logged on to their site to investigate.

To my dismay, I was greeted with the following message when I attempted to view a title online:

Quote:
Your computer's operating system is not compatible with instant viewing.

Try again from a computer running Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista.

WHAT?!? Not only does Netflix not support GNU/Linux, it requires the use of Windows XP or Vista, both of which are on the Twisted Lincoln, Inc. "Products to Boycott" list due to their use of Product Activation and DRM.

Apparently, even Windows 2000 (the last Microsoft OS that didn't use Product Activation) isn't supported.

So I decided to send Netflix a message via their "Contact Us" form on their website.

Here's what I sent them:

Quote:
I am very disappointed to see that your "instant viewing" feature does not support GNU/Linux, and requires Windows XP or Vista.

Please consider supporting operating systems that do not require the oppressive Product Activation and DRM techniques that are implemented in Microsoft Windows.

I encourage everyone who is a Netflix member to contact them and send similar messages of your own. Perhaps if enough people complain, they will rethink what OS's they support, and which ones they do not.

Earlier today, I tested the "Instant Viewing" feature on Windows 2000. Sadly, I get the same "OS not supported" message with Win2k as well...
