Currently we have a computer that is giving a false Windows message indicating that "Your computer is infected with spyware!" Anyway, I have run a couple of applications, but they have not recognized anything.

Any suggestions as to which freeware/shareware program might be the best to try?

Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search & Destroy are both good for spyware. For viruses, I'd say ClamWin is your best bet.

I saw an outstanding Spyware for Newbies information over at the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team Website.

A really outstanding set of information that even the most advanced technician would enjoy reading because it gives you some great information that you can use to relay meanings, information and detail to even the "newest" layperson.

While the information is quite dated the fundamentals are solid.

Enjoy!
