Is Nexradix live or strictly installed. I haven't seen anything saying it wasn't live, so the question. I had been
toying with an idea of making my grandkids their own personal USB jump drive with it's own Operating
System. I am not a programmer but I can rebuild a computer. Since this , you say, is logo changeable and
such, would work great. No selling or anything or that sort, just a little present for them. My idea would
have their own name as the OS (sounds silly) but. If you don't have time to answer don't worry.
The install DVD for Nexradix boots into a Live system, so you don't have to install it. Using the "USB Startup Disk" tool found under System - > Administration, you can easily install Nexradix to a USB drive.
As for changing the logos, we're still working on tools to automate the process and make rebranding easier. Meanwhile, it can still be done manually with a bit of work.
The toughest part is the startup splash screen -- you have to compile usplash themes from source. If full customization isn't needed, I'd go to gnome-look.org and just install a different pre-compiled usplash theme from there.
If you want to change the name of the distro in most of the dialogs, you can edit /etc/lsb-release. Note simply changing this file isn't the best option, as it will be restored if you do any updates down the line. If you want your changes to be persistent, you'll have to modify the actual debian package and reinstall it.
If you're feeling particularly ambitious, you can rebrand the entire distro -- the package "nexradix-trademarks" is depended on by every package that has our branding, so trying to remove it should give you a list of the packages you'd need to change. We try to keep such branding to a minimum, to make these types of efforts easier.
Depending on what you have in mind, we should be able to create a custom version for you with whatever names you like for a small fee. Drop us an email at "sales@twistedlincoln.com" with what you're interested in, and we'll get you a quote.
Katie, Brandy, Megan, Katlyn and Paige are the names that would be
used. I really appreciate your response and your info. Let me know how
much a fee you are talking about at your convienence. Thanks.
Normally, Nexradix DVD's are $8.00 each (including shipping). If all you want is the name of the OS changed and the boot-up splash screen modified with the new name, I'd say $18.00 per disc (including shipping) would be fair. All you'd have to do would be use the USB Startup Disk Creator I spoke of to install to your USB drives (and you'd still have the discs for backup).
Approximately what kind of timeframe are we talking about. Price doesn't sound too bad.
It would probably take about a week to get everything ready and ship.
