Gnome-disk-utility

Hello, I've just switched back to Nexradix from Ubuntu 9.10. I'm incredibly pleased due to the increased speed and that tt seems some of the updates allow me, after manually installing the latest Nvidia driver, to use Compiz (I haven't been able to use it on any 9.04 based-system prior) ! It's fantastic, because I had really gotten accustomed to it.

What I miss most from Karmic, aside from the USC and the new PPA system is definitely Palimpsest, which I've learned is from the package 'gnome-disk-utility'. I tried apt-get, but apparently it's not in the repository.

Do you know how I can get this in Nexradix 1.16?

Oh, and also is there any point? I plan to upgrade to the new Nexradix version once it's out, and since that is based off Karmic, I imagine the disk utility would be in the repos.

Thanks!

If you're feeling particularly adventurous, you could add the Karmic repositories (just change "jaunty" to "karmic" in synaptic), and install it, but that's a really bad idea... I haven't tested it (my main system runs the pre-release version of Nexradix 1.18 which is based on Karmic), but my guess is that it will prompt you to upgrade a variety of important libraries, which could easily break your system if you don't upgrade everything else to match.

I did some looking, and sadly it doesn't look like there is a PPA anywhere with a version of gnome-disk-utility compiled for Jaunty.

That said, as you imply, Nexradix 1.18 should be out very shortly.  The pre-release is pretty solid so far -- we're mostly trying to iron out how we want to handle upgrades before we release the final version.

I've played a bit with Palimpsest -- it is indeed very nice.  There's a chance we may replace gsmartcontrol with it in the default 1.18 install, but a final decision hasn't been made on that just yet.

Stay tuned...

Bah, I think I'll leave it be. I imagine I can wait.

Thanks for the quick response, and a have fun celebrating whatever it is you celebrate over the next month. ;D
