Personal Finances

I thought it would be interesting to see how people track the finances or if they track them at all. Personally I know how much money is in my bank account but I don't track it any further than that. I have made a decision today that I am going to try and track everything I spend and where I spend the money at and what I spend it on. I'm not sure how I am going to do it yet but I will report back my progress as I go. Ideas/ suggestions would be great. I'm thinking of using GNU Cash or OpenOffice spreadsheet.

The best way would be using some form of a spreadsheet. It would be easist way. With a spreadsheet you can do what ever you want with it.

Currently, I use uses a version of Peachtree to keep Twisted Lincoln, Inc.'s records. I'm in the process of investigating some alternative solutions, including some open source options. I will post updates as I discover them.

For my personal finances, I use OpenOffice.org's spreadsheet program. As haley21 suggests, it really is the simplest way to keep basic finances in order.

I just read that "each family will spend on average of $750 each" on family members this Christmas.

Does anyone else think that this is on the rediculous side?

This can't even be close to being accurate. Perhaps a total of $750 would be about right, but not per person. Where did you find this claim?

I plan on spending abour $50 on each person. That adds up to be about $200. That must be for the rich people on the east or west coast who can affored it.

I'm hoping that Santa or Twisted Lincoln will have an Oppo DVD player in my stocking in 4 days...cost $150...or the better model for $200...With all that I want for Xmas, that dollar amount is well over $100,000...PS3, Wii...More camera equipment...etc...the more I get the better...I love the Christmas spirit!

I know that I saw it on "one of the big networks" but here's another reference that talks about some of the same resources that I was referring to.

Seriously - $750 bucks+ each? Unreal. "Started shopping in September?" Equally unreal.
